A bit of history...

In August 2001 a newspaper article appeared in the Sun newspaper written by John Mackie. The article described a structure that was up for grabsÖ. Free because it was losing it's home on Granville Street in Vancouver to further commercial development.

The fountain, sculpted by Michael Phifer as a young artist under commission to Cadillac Fairview, was the last load of old growth cedar taken from the Queen Charlotte Islands. The artist described the task of sculpting as "like carving butter." This was 30 years ago.

Today, thanks to visionaries in this community, this structure finds a permanent home on Princeton's gateway to the Trans Canada Trail. Working with a dedicated team of fundraisers, construction experts, and community activists, the group has brought the project to this point.

Although fundraising must continue to cover transportation, and beautification costs, Phifer's Fountain has found a home, and a small community in southern British Columbia has found its spirit.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
