September 3 Sunday sprinkles of rain Bicycle touring Germany With shiny new black mud guards installed on Aareccas' (that's what we call them when we're referring to both of them) touring bikes it should be guarantee against further rain. But by noon we're let down again. We stopped pedalling and waited in a bus shelter for most of the rain to pass. Had pasta in a graveyard. A woman didn't look too happy about us being there, but Sharon surmises she wasn't happy even before she came around the corner and saw us. Arran and Rebecca saw their first ever pump handled well in action. I even had to prime it first. They thought all those old pumps were just for decoration. Stopped to take a picture of a windmill that is actually still used as a mill. The owner came over and was quite excited about us being there. He was singing merrily in his car when we arrived on our overloaded touring bicycles from Canada and New Zealand. I made a makeshift bungee from an old inner tube for my bike's rear rack. The inner tube holds my extra water bottles on tighter. I was having a problem with them bouncing off as I cycled over the lovely cobbles and other jarring events. Some of the roads we are bicycle touring have nasty potholes. Saw what would have made a great photo by the Schwarze Elster River. An orange-yellow coloured church was in the background, dirty mud river flowing in the foreground, and a little girl in red knickers holding a puppy on the bank. Next time I'm bicycle touring here I'll stop and take a picture. But she'll probably be gone. |
