September 6 Tuesday Bicycle touring from Long Lake Michigan to Tawa Michigan For breakfast, Ann served up bacon and eggs, toast with home-made strawberry preserves, juice, and apple sauce made from transparent apples. We cycled down the road. Soon they honked and waved as they passed in their vehicle on their way to work. Martin owns a truck repair shop and Ann does books on a computer. She has a disease called lupus and is on all sorts of medication. Our cycle tour led us to Harrisville State Park, where we stopped for lunch. It started to rain, so we pulled our bikes under a picnic shelter. The crowds are gone and we are here all by our lonesome. A trailer the size of a mobile home was here earlier, but they didn't even get out; they sat inside, eating sandwiches, while gazing at Lake Huron. Unlike bicycle touring, I'd say they were a bit removed from the elements. We cycled into Tawa around supper time. We ate by ourselves in a park adjacent to a city campground, which is packed with motorhomes for a steep fee. We decided to ride our bikes out of town. Shortly, I got a flat and by the time we finished fixing my bike tube it was dark. We dove into the woods by a propane store and set up camp. That's a good thing about bicycle camping ... it's pretty easy to get out of sight on short notice. |
