Bicycle touring journals

September 16 Friday Bicycle touring from Toronto Ontario

It is muggy. Humid. Hazy. This morning I couldn't even see the apartment building next to us, only fifty feet away. We are on the 18th floor. I am amazed at how well sound travels upwards. Traffic is noisy when the window is open. I can hear people speaking on the street far below. There is a sign posted before the towers: No excessive horn blowing. Is that because Torontonians brag so much? The echo is astounding.

We found out the power of attorney form we left with Faye wasn't accepted by the Land Titles office since it is too general and doesn't specifically state our block property numbers on the form. Steve, our lawyer, faxed a form to Michelle's that we are supposed to sign and have notarized. We spent half the day trying to find a someone in the yellow pages to notarize it.

Sharon and I took a bike path this afternoon for a ways along the Humber River. In one park there was a flock of Canada geese. On our return trip there were a few cooling their heels in the waterfall.

Peter, Michelle's boyfriend, came over and we went downtown to Movenpicks. It is a place where a bunch of restaurants are combined and you walk around with your tray and order whatever you want (move and pick). They make your selection right in front of you. We started off with mussels and a German beer on tap. Loaves of bread come in many varieties. I had grilled chicken for my main course. I finished off with a huge bunch of fruit and mango ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. It was a decadent mess and finished the meal exquisitely. That's a good thing about bicycle tourists ... we can eat a massive quantity of food.

At midnight we drove down Yonge street. It was bumper to bumper. I haven't seen that many kids hanging out of cars since I watched the movie American Graffiti. They were young, too.
