Vermilion Forks Field Naturalists

About Us

We are an active and sociable club with interests in all aspects of the natural world, including concern for wildlife and protection of biodiversity. We enjoy regular hiking and birding outings, hummingbird banding, and maintaining the Swan Lake Wildlife Conservation Centre.  We are involved with the annual Meadowlark Festival, Bird Atlas Mapping and the Christmas Bird Count. We meet monthly on the second Tuesday of each month, except July and August, at the Riverside Centre at 7:00 pm.  Short business meetings are followed by an educational speaker on a topic of interest.

Awards

Madelon Honoured, By Cora Cherry

Madelon Schouten received the prestigious Steve Cannings Award from The British Columbia Ornithologists for work done over a span more than 50 years. She founded several Naturalists Clubs (White Rock, Surrey, Vancouver, and Princeton) that are still thriving. She initiated and organized the Christmas Bird Count on the Lower Mainland and in Princeton too. She has done over a 100 Breeding Bird Surveys, more than anyone else in Canada.

The award was presented by Wayne Weber, a board member of the provincial organization and former director of the Delta chapter of the BC Field Ornithologists.
