A glorious fall morning, the
hike across the north slope above Coalmont is truly spectacular.
Three kilometres along the old road, we stop to admire the peaceful
little village of Coalmont, nestled in colourful autumn splendor
of the valley below.
Four willow grouse were scared up while ambling into the Bear's
den area. While hiking through a grove of aspen, we halt in our
tracks to admire the graceful yellow leaves which are drifting
down through the trees to add to the harvest gold carpet which
is being formed around the hikers.
After admiring the remains of a rustic abandoned cabin, we work
our way along a trail through the trees beyond the cabin. Breaking
out onto a sunlit slope, we stop for lunch.
After a bite to eat and a cup of tea, we hike on for another
half of a kilometre, where we encounter another grove of aspen
trees dressed in shimmering gold skirting a majestic meadow.
The hikers rest, while absorbing the awesome beauty of mother
nature, then hike back down to the waiting cars.
