Canada Goose Salute

Sitting, with my back
resting against a tree,
overlooking the Tulameen
River.
Listening to the sounds
of nature.
The rushing of the water,
the chirping of sandpipers.
All of a sudden!
above every other sound,
my ears receive a truly
unique sensation:
Canada geese honking;
Looking up, and out
over the river,
my wandering eyes behold,
a V of Canada geese,
soaring low over the water.
As these majestic birds,
draw near, Jan and I,
take count.
Twenty-one in all.
The rushing river,
has graced a bird lover's
dream.
As the exquisitely
feathered creatures glide,
overhead, these graceful
geese, tip their wings.
Giving Jan, and I,
the Canada goose salute.
Cutting across the wind,
the geese bank, in perfect
formation.
And return, from whence
they came.
Just after their turning
point, an air pocket catches
these magnificently feathered
creatures, and holds each
of them, as if suspended
from pieces of string.
Air buoyant.
Then with mighty thrusts,
of their powerful wings,
they are gone, as a shadow,
low over the river
working their way into
the wind.
As our feathered friends
disappear,
our love for Mother Nature,
has just grown.
Encouraging our hearts,
to sing.
Joy to the world of nature.
Mother Nature's air show,
just for us!
A few moments that Jan,
and I will always cherish.
