Close Encounter

While out on the trail,
meandering through,
Mother Nature's springtime
pantry.
Admiring the lush new
growth, and new buds on
the deciduous trees.
Listening with keen ears,
to soul-soothing nature sounds.
The tweet and twittering of
mountain birds.
A soft and gentle breeze,
whispering through a
canopy of trees.
All of a sudden!
There is a thunderous crashing,
just beyond a vale of aspen.
Through the blind, charge,
five mule deer.
Four mules leap across
the trail.
Critter number five,
decides not to follow its mates.
Prancing straight towards me,
head held high.
My heart skips a beat!
Will I survive?
The mule deer bounded,
within six meters, then veered,
to my side and leaped off,
through the spring foliage.
A close love for nature,
encounter.
That I cannot deny.
