Connally Creek Camp

Connally Creek Camp, August twenty-six.
A truly awesome gorgeous day.
Two hikers and a dog, leave Coalmont town.
Headed into the hills, with backpacks
loaded with camping gear, and trail mix.
We stop and have a drink, from our water flasks
along the way.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit
is exceedingly strong.
Thank you Father God, I most humbly pray.
Our trail is clear for a mile or two.
Then to our surprise, the trail is overgrown
with brush.
We guide our feet through the tangle.
Stepping over deadfalls, and we bend
shuffling our hiking boots beneath
blowdowns.
At the bottom of the slope
these two backpackers, peer
through the willow thicket, at a babbling brook.
Connally Creek! We're here my friend.
Jan and I each receive a God-given, spiritual rush.
On the slope across the creek, is our camp site.
I hoist our packs up to Jan, above.
Then up the embankment, I scramble.
The endorphined-filled happy wanderers
reach into their packs, and pull out a well earned lunch.
After our appetites have been satisfied
two tent sites are selected.
Our packs are unloaded, we go straight to work.
The tents go up like a dream. In go our mattresses
and sleeping bags.
Each tent has a smile of its own.
This wilderness camp is awesome, truly exhilarating.
Better than expected.
Stories are shared, around a camp fire
In the evenings, while watching the stars in a night sky.
Early in the mornings, the rising sun caresses
the treetops.
Camp chores, are shared, for two days.
Then our camp is dismantled.
Each backpack is reloaded, and we are
homeward bound.
A truly fulfilling wilderness experience.
That, these two happy campers cannot deny.
To God we humbly give praise.
