Ghost Train

  Steam engine number eight,
Across the balding prairie,
Roars,
Hauling freight,
From out of nowhere,
A ghost train, is rushing,
Head-on through the haze,
The fireman dampens the coal,
Tending to his chores,
The engineer,
Clucked to his pyre steed,
Grasps the whistle string,
In rushing fear,
Beads of sweat appear,
Upon each face.
Listen to the locomotive's,
Whistles sing,
All brakes are locked,
And squeal as they slide,
Along the ribbons of steel,
An awesome flash of light,
Which emerged from,
Out of the haze,
Of the rising sun,
As the ghost train slips by,
Our side,
Everything is all right,
It's a ghost train!
