Raven Roll Hike

Jan, and I, strike out, on an endurance
hike.
Up the rail bed, westward bound.
Our day is fresh, and new.
Most exhilarating, Jan and I rejoice!
Two kilometres out, the rail bed
takes a turn, and hugs the majestic
Tulameen River.
The view, truly exquisite, and wonderfully
refreshing.
Yes! a walkahaulic's choice.
God's love is found.
Four kilometres along the way,
a raven is heard.
Looking skyward, Jan and I, once again rejoice.
The raven, puts on an aerial show.
Folding its wings, the raven does a raven roll.
An awesome spectacular aerial display.
After the raven's performance,
which happens to be above a field of
wind whipped golden grass, Jan and I
hike over to the river's shore,
where we sit and enjoy a refreshing cup of
tea, and a snack.
After a relaxing rest, the walkahaulics
stroll back to the rail bed.
On our way again, headed for Tulameen.
Hiking along the dike, Jan and I admire the river,
whose shores are dressed in glistening ice.
Working our way onto the Tulameen River Road,
another four kilometres of hiking is absorbed.
Here Jan and I cross over the river on a
placer miner's bridge.
Upon reaching the opposite shore
Jan and I find ourselves in a different world.
We are in a winter wonderland.
Frost is heavily laden.
The shrubbery is adorned with ice crystals.
Jan and I stop walking.
Unshouldering our packs, we find a frozen
mound, we sit and enjoy our lunch.
As the river continues talking,
about the true beauty, found in God's creation.
Yes! God's glorious, unending love,
which has been unfurled.
A white-tailed deer halts in its tracks,
to admire a pair of professional walkahaulics.
But not for long, our dog gives chase.
A minute later the pooch returns.
The white-tailed deer won that race!
Jan and I, hike on, meandering downstream
on an old road.
After several kilometres of wilderness travel,
truly inspiring. Jan and I, find ourselves on Dad's
property.
When we arrive at Dad's log mansion Jan and I
are invited in for tea, and a snack.
This soul invigorating day, is wearing on.
Our host, shares a few stories of days of old.
Then Jan and I must go, we leave our entertainer
looking after a pot roast.
After just starting out on the last
five kilometres, Jan and I find ourselves walking
into an awe-inspiring sunset.
It's fascinating how God's evening beauty
unfolds.
The skyline is dressed in blush.
The countryside is just aglow.
The surrounding trees stand as sentinels.
Clouds reflecting pink, found in the sky.
Jan and I arrive in Coalmont, just
after dusk.
With the soul soothing feeling, that Jan and
I receive, while walking through God's creation,
we will never let go.
When I arrived back home, I did check
my pedometer. Because my feet are talking.
A truly magnificent day, twenty-five kilometres,
of professional walking.
Hallelujah!
