Soaring Raven Hike

Jan and I are headed east,
hiking along the open road,
leaving the peaceful little village
of Coalmont behind.
The beauty found in Mother Nature
is soul uplifting, and truly awesome,
Yes! simply divine.
Four and a half kilometres out,
the magnificent Tulameen River,
comes into view.
Meandering along the valley bottom,
the shores adorned with glistening
jewels of ice.
A raven soars into view,
not beating a wing.
Gliding on the thermal currents,
which are carrying this bird of prey
along.
The sound of air rushing through
the feathers of the outstretched wings.
Six kilometres slip by.
Jan and I stop for a break, and a
cup of tea.
Admiring the glorious wilderness.
Shear beauty found in the Tulameen
River valley.
Which is dressed in angelic white.
After our walkahaulic rest,
Jan and I are urged on,
by our refreshed dancing endorphins.
At the eight kilometre mark,
Jan and I scurry back beneath the trees,
for our lunch break.
Into a treetop just above,
soars a raven, looking for
a handout.
After refueling and being
re energized by the peacefulness
found in Mother Nature,
Jan and I prepare to leave.
A piece of sandwich,
is left upon the carpet of snow,
for Raven, our feathered friend.
As Jan and I are
working our way back out to
the road, we hear our raven call.
Speaking in raven.
Jan and I are humbly thanked
for our token of love.
One last look at our friend
perched high in a tree,
then Jan and I are homeward bound.
