Soaring Red-Tailed Hawks

While out walking
I heard a scream coming from
the treetops.
Looking out over the valley
two red-tailed hawks are spotted, soaring.
To each other the raptors are talking.
These magnificent birds of prey
glide upon the thermal currents
without beating a wing.
Every once in a while, as these feathered friends
soar, they head into the wind.
With outstretched wings, these awesome
creatures of the air, come to a stop.
As if suspended from a string.
Awesome true beauty, mother nature
at her best.
Then as if the string has been cut
the red -tailed beauties soar out
over the canopy of trees, screaming in delight.
Sunlight absorbed by the fanned out
red tail, and mottled outstretched wings.
On the wing, soaring above a stand of evergreen
exuberant colours without a doubt.
Joy to the world my heart sings.
As I admire this spectacular invigorating sight.
