Spirit of a Superior
Bull Elk
High in a virgin alpine
meadow, carpeted with wildflowers, alongside a meandering babbling
brook a superior bull elk is grazing, nibbling at the young foliage.
It is mid summer,
the countryside is pristine and filled with the magic of bird
songs. After my hunger has been fulfilled, across the wildflower
carpeted alpine meadow this massive bull elk ambles, to a young
scrub pine tree at a bend in the stream, laying in the flickering
alpine shade my spirit soars.
Closing my eyes this
wapiti dreams of younger days.
After numerous hours, I open my alpine eyes, the western sky
is just a glowing. Scrambling to my feet, I prance across the
lush meadow and out onto the face of a hog's back ridge.
The skyline to the
west is dressed in crimson red with pockets of gold, adorned
with wisps of gray. My keen wilderness ears pick up a scream
soaring across the sky. Looking heavenward these eyes of glory
spot an incredible array, of the setting sun, and a silhouette
of a massive soaring bald eagle.
The king of the high
country lifts his head high, tickling his rear flanks with a
crown of trailing antlers, a reverberating bugle echoes from
across the glowing valley, the majestic bald eagle screams out
into the setting sun. It's been an invigorating end, of a most
relaxing inspirational day.
