February 15 Wednesday Bicycle touring Italy Sardinia at a ledge overlooking the sea in Sardegna Great view of the waves crashing on the rocky shore below. I have to be careful not to stumble around since we're so close to the edge. I put one hand on the tent pole when I get out on the cliff side. I got out the other door this morning -- sometimes my balance isn't too good first thing in the morning. Took a picture the other day of many rock fences and walked into the field to get a clearer view and stumbled several times on the rocks. "Just call me goat," I said to Sharon as I then slipped three feet down a rock and almost smashed my camera. "I was thinking of calling you something else," she replied. Probably something malicious if I know her thinking. Sharon says the boys at home used to complain about making fences -- they should see this! Looks like they'd run out of wieners for weiner roasts before all these rocks got moved. For Valentine's Day we had walked down the road to where two streams of water were coming out of the concrete retaining wall by the road and washed our hair. A guy stopped to wash his car, another to fill jugs of water, and a third to round up his sheep. We are basically in the middle of nowhere and all these people show up. We are surround by ocean, cliffs, fences, and bush surrounding us when suddenly a guy appears out of nowhere from the hillside, crosses the road, jumps a fence on the other side and heads into the bushes, disappearing again in a few seconds. When we try to see our blue-coloured bicycle touring tent on the ledge where we left it, we can't see either our tent or our touring bikes. That's how thick the vegetation is in this part of Sardinia. And that's when we know exactly where to look. |
